Frequently Asked Questions
Answers are grouped by who's asking — pick the one that's you. If you're wondering whether the electoral committee (or anyone else) can see something they shouldn't, that's answered directly and specifically, not glossed over.
How do I actually vote?
Visit your election's page and tap "Vote Now." You'll be asked for your matric number, which opens WhatsApp with a pre-filled message to send — that delivers your one-time voting token. Enter your matric number and token on the voting page, pick one candidate per position, and submit. The whole thing takes under a minute.
Is my vote actually secret, or does the committee just promise not to look?
It's enforced structurally, not by policy. The record that says "you voted" and the record that says "this candidate got a vote" are stored in separate database tables that are never joined anywhere in the system — there is no query, no admin screen, and no export that reconnects the two. See the Trust page for the full explanation.
What if I never receive my token on WhatsApp?
First check that the phone number your committee registered for you is correct — tokens are sent to the number on file, not whatever number you're messaging from. If it still doesn't arrive, ask your electoral committee to resend it or check via SMS if that's enabled for your election.
Can I vote more than once?
No. Your voting session is single-use and is deleted from the system the moment your ballot is submitted. If you try to reuse a token afterward, it will be rejected.
I lost my token — now what?
Ask your electoral committee to regenerate it. Regenerating invalidates the old token immediately, so only the newest one you receive will work.
Can anyone tell that I didn't vote, or pressure me based on that?
Whether you've voted is visible to your electoral committee (so they know who still needs a reminder), but who you voted for is not linked to that record at all.
